Celebrating Neurodiversity at Community Connections
At Community Connections, we’re proud to be supporting Neurodiversity Celebration Week.
“What’s that?”, we hear you ask! And what does it have to do with Waythrough or Community Connections?
You may have heard of awareness events such as Stress Awareness Month, Black History Month or International Women’s Day.
These moments help us learn about important topics that are sometimes misunderstood or overlooked. Neurodiversity Celebration Week does exactly the same – shining a light on the different ways people think, learn and experience the world.
Why neurodiversity matters
Neurodiversity is something that touches many of our lives.
In fact, around 15% of the UK population – about one in seven people – are neurodivergent.
Neurodivergence is not a mental health condition, but research shows that neurodivergent people are more likely to experience mental health challenges. This makes understanding neurodiversity especially important for services like Community Connections, where supporting wellbeing and inclusion is at the heart of what we do.

What is Neurodiversity Celebration Week?
Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a national campaign that aims to:
- break down myths and misconceptions about neurodiversity
- change how we understand and support neurodivergent people
- celebrate the strengths and talents of neurodivergent individuals
- build fairer and more inclusive communities
These goals are not just relevant for one week of the year. Instead, the week acts as a reminder to reflect on how we recognise, support and celebrate different ways of thinking – both as individuals and as a society.
Shining a light on the different ways people think, learn and experience the world.
Creating more inclusive communities
Although awareness of neurodiversity has grown in recent years, many neurodivergent people still face misunderstanding, stigma or barriers in everyday life.
By learning more about neurodiversity, we can begin to create environments where people feel:
- understood
- valued
- supported
At Community Connections, we believe that recognising different ways of thinking helps build stronger, more compassionate communities.
