ABOUT THIS SESSION
Join us for a visit to a working care farm!
Care farming is a brilliant way for people to connect with nature and other people, especially if you might be feeling isolated.
Meet the friendly resident cows, groom the horses and enjoy a guided walk around the farm as you learn how everything runs behind the scenes.
It’s important that you wear appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear for the day. For guidance on what you’ll need, please check the What to Wear section below.
Care farms use farming and nature to support people’s wellbeing, especially when it comes to mental health. Being on a care farm offers a calming space, away from the pressures of everyday life. It can help ease anxiety or stress and give you the freedom to just be yourself.
FOOD AND DRINK
Enjoy free tea and coffee during your time on the farm!
If you’d prefer a cold drink, feel free to bring your drinks along with you.
We’ll be having a picnic (as long as the weather’s kind), so don’t forget to bring your own lunch and something to drink.
WHAT TO WEAR
Wear flat, sturdy shoes/boots and bring comfortable, lightweight layers such as a fleece and a waterproof… suitable for the very changeable English summer weather! If it’s sunny please bring a hat and suntan lotion.
If it’s wet, you’ll need to wear wellies.
We have some available to borrow—just let us know your shoe size in advance so we can set a pair aside for you
TRANSPORT
Let us know in advance if you’d like to use the free minibus service.
The minibus will leave Wingfield at 10:40am, aiming to arrive at the farm by 11:00am.
After the session finishes at 2:00pm, the return minibus will bring you back to Wingfield by around 2:30pm.
By Car: Make your own way there and park at the venue. Details will be provided nearer the time.
ABOUT CARE FARMING
The Surrey Hills Society, in partnership with the Surrey Hills National Landscape and Growing Health Together project have been awarded a grant to initiate a pilot of nature-based health interventions on farms in East Surrey. These can support the mental health of people from all ages and backgrounds with Surrey Heartlands’ priority communities as the focus. The priority area is focused on prevention, removing barriers, and supporting people to become proactive in improving their emotional health and wellbeing.
Through farming-related activity, such as animal care, mechanics or horticulture, people have the opportunity to participate in a meaningful way.
