ABOUT THIS SESSION
‘Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness’ (Desmond Tutu)
Join performance poet and psychotherapist Jacky Power on a rediscovery of hope for World Mental Health Day. So much of what we encounter either on the news or in our personal lives can make us feel bereft of hope. Take some respite in this workshop to connect back to yourself through reflective writing. In this workshop you will be guided by Jacky in your own rediscovery of hope through writing exercises, reading poetry and learning about your strengths. This workshop does not require you to be a ‘good writer’ or ‘aspiring poet’, just bring your curiosity and let’s see what unfolds!
- Monday 10th October
- 10am to 12pm
- Redhill Library
- Please book a ticket per person
About Jacky
Jacky wrote her first poem when she was 11 – it was an anti-drugs rap. The irony that she then went on to be a psychotherapist specialising in addiction is not lost on her. Jacky has an MSc in Addiction Psychology and Counselling and has presented at the international Conference on Addiction and Associated Disorders on social media addiction. This year she performed her one woman performance poetry show ’Stop the world I want to get off’ at Edinburgh Fringe Festival where she received a 4.5/5 star review. She is also creator and host of The Therapeutic Poet podcast which has just been shortlisted for the International Women’s Podcast Awards 2022. Jacky is on a mission to rehumanise us, one poem at a time’
The event is organised by Art Matters (part of the Richmond Fellowship) and sponsored by Reigate and Banstead Council.
