Hands-on healing in action:

the healing ripple of Holistic Harmony

from clients to practitioners — how wellbeing spreads through community

Report by Angie Muscio & Chon Donnelly

Back in summer 2024, East Surrey Community Connections teamed up with Holistic Harmony CIC – a not-for-profit social enterprise with a big heart and an even bigger mission: to make wellbeing accessible for everyone.

At their cosy Community Wellbeing Hub in Merstham, a talented team of volunteer therapists, led by Shirley O’Donoghue and Kate Winter, have been offering free or affordable complementary therapies to boost physical, emotional, and mental health. Think Reflexology, Reiki, Indian Head Massage, Facials, Kinesiology, Homeopathy, Acupuncture and more.

Around 15 of our clients joined the programme, taking part in relaxed fortnightly sessions where they discovered new self-care tools, learned about a wide range of therapies, and enjoyed two personalised treatments chosen especially for them.

The feedback? Nothing short of amazing. Clients have described the experience as life-changing—reporting not only better health but also more confidence, connection, and a genuine sense of community. It’s been wonderful to see people who once felt isolated now laughing together, forming friendships, and feeling at ease in social settings again.

And here’s the truly magical part: enthusiasm for the therapies was so strong that Holistic Harmony offered free Reiki training to participants who wanted to take their healing journey further.

Fast forward 15 months, and we’re thrilled to celebrate eight clients graduating with their Reiki Level One certification! These newly qualified practitioners are now part of Holistic Harmony’s volunteer team, giving back by offering treatments to the next group of clients beginning their own wellbeing journeys.

The Ripple Effect: Real Lives, Real Impact

It’s been a beautiful full circle — proof that when community, compassion, and opportunity come together, the results can be transformative.

The impact of this additional training has been truly inspiring. Clients say the benefits have gone far beyond gaining a qualification — it’s sparked real, lasting change in their lives. Many have reported:

  • Feeling calmer, with reduced anxiety and better emotional balance
  • A boost in confidence and self-worth
  • A deeper sense of connection and belonging
  • Fresh motivation, purpose, and a whole new set of skills
